104 students from the earthquake area started education at Darüşşafaka

Darüşşafaka, which provides 8 years of full scholarship, boarding college education to students who have experienced the loss of a mother and/or father and whose financial situation is inadequate, opened the 2023-2024 academic year with a ceremony held at the Darüşşafaka TİM Performance Center with nearly a thousand students from all corners of Turkey.

This year, a total of 225 students, 104 of whom were from the earthquake zone, started their 8-year free and boarding education journey at Darüşşafaka.

“We plan to provide scholarships and distance education support to 100 students.”

Oğuz Güleç, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Darüşşafaka Society, said that they have been continuing their activities for 160 years with the mission of “Equal Opportunity in Education” and said, “As Darüşşafaka, we increased our quota this year to provide a good education opportunity to our children affected by the earthquake. In addition to the average of 120 students we receive every year, this year we opened the doors of our compassion home to 104 children from the earthquake zone. In addition, we plan to provide scholarships and distance education support to 100 students from the earthquake zone who took our exam on May 21 but could not obtain the right to education in our school. “In this way, our children will continue their education in their provinces with the support of our society,” he said.

Stating that they started the “Education is on Us, Home is on You” campaign to increase capacity with the aim of creating additional quotas for children in the earthquake zone next year, Güleç said, “After the earthquake disaster that our beautiful country experienced, we, as Darüşşafaka, did our part and provided 104 children from the earthquake zone with full scholarships in our school for 8 years.” We provided the right to qualified boarding education. Next year, we will again create a quota for our children from the earthquake zone. For this reason, we aim to rebuild the school and dormitory buildings of Darüşşafaka Educational Institutions, increase their capacity and bring the campus of the information age to our country. In this way, we will be able to touch the future of more children by bringing our modern and egalitarian education approach to them. “With our campaign, we will continue to be a light for our children’s future,” he said.

Darüşşafaka Society is signing a new campaign called “Education is on Us, Home is on You” to increase the capacity of Darüşşafaka Educational Institutions’ campus in Maslak, Istanbul, in order to provide quotas for children affected by the earthquake in the next education and training period. The campaign aims to touch the lives of more children and offer them not only education but also a safe home.
