Countdown for YKS: 3.5 million candidates will sweat

3 million 527 thousand 463 candidates applied to YKS’s Basic Proficiency Test (TYT), 2 million 573 thousand 136 candidates to the Field Proficiency Tests (AYT), and 338 thousand 14 candidates to the Foreign Language Test (YDT).

Last year, 3 million 243 thousand 425 candidates applied to YKS. Approximately 1 million people will serve in the Higher Education Institutions Exam.


The exam will be held in TRNC together with all provinces in Turkey.

The first session of YKS, which will be held on 17 June at 10:15, will last 165 minutes. In the exam, candidates will be asked 120 questions from Turkish, Social Sciences, Basic Mathematics and Science.

The second session of the exam, AYT, will start on June 18 at 10:15 and will last 180 minutes. At AYT, candidates will be given a 160-question booklet consisting of Turkish Language and Literature, Social Sciences-1, Social Sciences-2, Mathematics and Science tests.

Third session YDT will start at 15.45 on the same day. In the 120-minute exam to be held in German, Arabic, French, English and Russian, candidates will be given a question booklet in the foreign language they have applied for.

Candidates will not be admitted to the exam halls after 10:00 for TYT and AYT, and after 15:30 for YDT.

YKS candidates are required to bring their valid identity documents with photo and entrance exam when they come to the exam.


25 percent additional quota for earthquake survivors at state universities in their provinces

The Council of Higher Education (YÖK) will make a new application this year for students affected by the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquake.

In this context, an additional 25 percent quota was allocated to the candidates residing in the provinces affected by the earthquake while they were placed in the universities in their own cities, without any reduction in the general quota.

According to this, candidates residing in the cities under the state of emergency and in the Gürün district of Sivas as of February 6, 2023, will be given additional quotas in addition to the general quota of programs that accept students through central placement at state universities in their own provinces.

These universities are Adana Alparslan Türkeş Science and Technology, Adıyaman, Çukurova, Dicle, Fırat, Gaziantep, Gaziantep Islam Science and Technology, Harran, Hatay Mustafa Kemal, İnönü, İskenderun Teknik, Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam, Kahramanmaraş Istiklal, Kilis 7 December, Malatya Turgut Özal. and Osmaniye Korkut Ata universities.

On the other hand, 1 quota will be allocated for each of the earthquake-affected YKS candidates, excluding the obligation to teach 15 percent scholarship students stipulated in the Law No.

In case of enrolling in this quota allocated in central placement, a discounted or paid quota will be added to the program by taking the preference of the university during the additional placement as well as the registered quota.


Special quota for women over 34 at state universities

In addition, as of January 1, 2023, a special application will be implemented for YKS for women who have completed the age of 34.

In this context, a quota for women over the age of 34 has been allocated in associate degree and undergraduate programs of state universities that accept students through central placement.

Women who have not graduated from any undergraduate program before will benefit from this right. Those who have previously graduated from an associate degree program will be able to choose the quotas reserved for undergraduate programs only.
