Hybrid teaching in universities to be reviewed

Chairman of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) Erol Özvar spoke at the inter-university board meeting at İzmir Ege University. Özvar said that after the disaster of the century, the distance education decision will be reviewed in universities.


“We will consider the hybrid option”

Özvar said, “We will review the decision taken as of the beginning of April, and if the conditions become suitable, we will evaluate the blended, hybrid education option that offers face-to-face education as well as distance education. As the Council of Higher Education, our first priority is to normalize our higher education system quickly after the disaster.” .

Erol Özvar also talked about the impact of the disaster on higher education institutions. He stated that 17 thousand academicians, 30 thousand administrative staff and 545 thousand students working in 18 universities in 11 provinces were affected by the earthquakes.

He noted that in university campuses in 11 provinces, 4 buildings were destroyed and 554 buildings were damaged.

Özvar also stated that the campuses most affected by the earthquake belonged to Adıyaman, Hatay Mustafa Kemal and Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam Universities. He said the wounds will heal soon.
