Erol Özvar, President of the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), asked the rectors to pay more attention to the housing and subsistence problems of university students.
According to the statement made by YÖK, Özvar spoke at the 257th Interuniversity Board Meeting held at YÖK.
Expressing his thanks to the university rectors for their efforts to heal the wounds after the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş, Özvar also drew attention to the need for shelter of university students in his speech.
Özvar, who asked the rectors to deal more closely with the housing and subsistence problems of the students, especially considering the rent rates and living standards in metropolitan cities, said:
“We are entering a process where the close contact of our rector friends and administration with their students will be even more important. We, as universities, need to deal more closely with or deal with the housing and livelihood problems of our students. Özvar also emphasized that they especially take the dormitory issue into consideration in the requests to open a Vocational School (Vocational High School) to the Council of Higher Education.
Stating that they do not give permission to open a Vocational School in a county that does not have a dormitory, Özvar said, “We should open a Vocational School, let someone find a dormitory. We are also responsible for the social environment and living conditions of the students in terms of housing.
