An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 occurred at 04:17 today in the Pazarcık district of Kahramanmaraş. After the earthquake, there were many aftershocks, the largest of which was 6.6 magnitude.
In addition to Kahramanmaraş, schools in 10 provinces where the earthquake was felt severely, especially Adana, Osmaniye, Hatay, Kilis, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Adıyaman, Malatya and Diyarbakır, were closed for a week.
Making a statement at the information meeting at the AFAD coordination center, Vice President Fuat Oktay said;
We met with our Minister of National Education and our President. We also presented the situation to our President. We will be determining the vacation period of our schools according to the activity level of the damage related to our 10 provinces. We’ll announce today or tomorrow. But as of today, our schools are already on vacation. As of this week, it is already a vacation.
All of our schools for a week are completely holiday in these 10 provinces. However, we will evaluate the damage with our Minister regarding the aftermath and we will announce it separately.
