“We are reviewing our textbooks again”

Minister Tekin addressed the teachers in the live broadcast of the Education Information Network (EBA) due to the start of the professional working period of the 2023-2024 academic year.

Wishing that the new academic year would be beneficial to parents, teachers, students and the whole country, Tekin presented Deputy Ministers Celile Eren Ökten, Ömer Faruk Yelkenci, Kemal Şamlıoğlu and Nazif Yılmaz who participated in the broadcast.

The deputy ministers also took the floor and gave information to the teachers about their duties.

Minister Tekin stated that they want to work with more than 1 million teachers from the central and provincial organizations in a team spirit that respects labor law and can work together, and stated that they have been working together with the deputy ministers in many different positions within the ministry for many years.

Explaining the preparations made in the Ministry for the new academic year since the beginning of June, Tekin emphasized that they have taken serious measures regarding the education process in the region where the earthquake in Kahramanmaraş, the disaster of the century, was experienced.

Noting that they are making plans for the reinvestment program of the destroyed and damaged classrooms in the region, Tekin reminded the precautions taken by the teachers in the earthquake area with the accommodation problems.

The new legislation will be published this week

Referring to the regulations made in the legislation in this process, Tekin said, “In the coming days, our preparations for the regulation on basic education, lifelong and measurement and evaluation, especially the secondary education regulation, have been completed. Some of them will be published this week.” shared his knowledge.

Underlining that they implemented the arrangements they made regarding the relocation of teachers through consultations, Tekin summarized that they are in a process that will increase the quality of education and training environments, and that they will implement the measures and disciplinary practices they will take to solve the problems that their colleague teachers face and protect their reputations.

Minister Tekin said:

“In this sense, we take the necessary measures to ensure that our teacher friends have a say in matters such as repetition of grades and reducing absenteeism and dropouts in terms of protecting their own law in the classroom and at school. We implement something that our teachers are very uncomfortable with and that there are similar practices in many countries of the world. From now on, we want our parents to meet with our teachers in the school if they want to talk about something, within the appointment calendar. Likewise, we have made arrangements regarding mobile phones so that our teacher friends can solve the problems they face in terms of privacy in terms of disturbing disciplinary practices. In 2017, we prevented our students from using mobile phones in the classrooms.”

“We will implement the regulation that will relieve the teachers”

Tekin also asked teachers not to use their mobile phones in classes unless it is compulsory.

Noting that especially the classroom teachers expressed the difficulties experienced by the newly enrolled students regarding the choice of class, branch and teacher, Tekin said, “These have reached a level that shocked the reputation of our fellow teachers. Maybe we could not achieve this this year, but when our basic education regulation was published, they were registered in primary schools as of the next academic year. We will also have implemented an arrangement that will relieve them both in terms of the registration area and in terms of choosing branches and teachers in schools.” he said.

“EBA will be enriched”

Minister Tekin emphasized that they took steps to increase the quality of education in the circular they published.

Pointing out that they will enrich the Education Information Network (EBA) of the Ministry of National Education, Tekin said, “EBA will become a bedside source for our teachers and students again. We are taking precautions regarding it. Secondly, we are reviewing our textbooks both visually and in terms of usage. In line with the demands of the current developments and the rapid change we are in, there will be a continuous update process regarding the curriculum in the world conditions.” he said.

Expressing that during their meeting with the teachers, suggestions were made regarding the weight of some courses in the curriculum and other issues, Tekin said, “As soon as they reach us, we will bring them to the agenda with our Board of Education and Discipline, and we will make the curriculum process lively and dynamic.” used the phrase.

Making statements about the cancellation of some issues related to the Teaching Profession Law by the Constitutional Court, Tekin said that they are waiting for a reasoned decision regarding the measures to be taken.

Stating that after this decision is published, they will look at whether a legislative process is necessary or they will evaluate the process with the legislation of the Ministry, Tekin said, “We will meet the expectations of our fellow teachers in this regard.” said.

Touching on the demands from teachers, Tekin said:

“My request from you is that we are all together in a process that will turn the next 100 years into the Century of Turkey, with the accumulation of the past 100 years in the new academic year. The response is this. We want to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the republic in a glorious and sincere manner, and to plan the next century’s plans during these celebrations. We want to do our part together so that the main power of the next century will be Turkey and the Turkish nation. I hope we will make the next century the Century of Turkey, and we will bring ourselves to ourselves a period when our children and grandchildren celebrate the second century of the republic with their chests raised and proud. We’ll survive.”

Minister Tekin wanted the schoolyards to be redesigned together as an environment where children get away from digital addiction, computer games or similar social media platforms, spend time, do physical activity, and get away from such addictions.

Calling for being more sensitive about substance abuse, Tekin said, “I request you to share your feelings on this issue with the relevant institutions without delay. As the Ministry of National Education, we want to work as a team that tries to take the right decisions by listening to everyone based on the culture of consultation, acting in a team spirit. ” made the emphasis.

President Erdogan demanded that every precaution be taken

Explaining that in their meetings, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan constantly warned that all kinds of measures should be taken regarding the needs of education, teachers and schools, Tekin said, “He did not turn down any of our offers in this regard. Let me once again express my gratitude to Mr. President on behalf of myself and the National Education family.” used the phrases.
