“We do not find it appropriate to transfer to non-formal education institutions”

Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin received the President of Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) Bayram Ali Ersoy on the occasion of the beginning of the new academic year.

During the admission, views were exchanged regarding the studies to be carried out together in the 2023-2024 academic year and the scope of the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS).

Tekin said in the meeting that this year, as every year, 9-12 grades. He reminded that class achievements and textbooks will be sent to ÖSYM by the Board of Education and Discipline.

Stating that the question writing for the ÖSYM question bank will be done by ÖSYM experts, academicians and teachers working in schools affiliated with the Ministry, Tekin underlined that the Ministry’s curriculum and textbooks were taken as a guide in question preparation.

Stating that the issue of school attendance comes up frequently in his meetings with teachers, Tekin said, “We say that we attach importance to school attendance with our regulation changes, and that it is not appropriate for our students to transfer to non-formal education institutions, especially open high schools.” he said.

Tekin noted that they will continue to work together with ÖSYM from now on and that new questions will be produced for the question bank in the near future.

ÖSYM President Ersoy touched upon the importance of students’ attendance at school and active participation in classes during the preparation process for YKS, and emphasized that students will be successful if they pay attention to the content of the subject and carry out the measurement and evaluation activities in the books, with the awareness that textbooks are the primary source.
